The coolest Roblox concerts so far

Roblox has become known for hosting epic concerts featuring some of the biggest artists in in the world.

Given that Roblox calls their games “experiences”, it’s no surprise that their on-platform concerts are more than just live performances.

They often include exclusive merchandise that players can earn, such as a set of sunflower wings from the 24kGoldn experience, an old town cowboy hat with the Lil Nas X show, or a Twenty One Pilots flag for players to hang in their Roblox homes.

This type of interactivity involves the user in new ways, allowing them to benefit from the experience in more ways than one. After all, this is what the Roblox metaverse is all about.

To create these shows, Roblox developers use motion capture technology on the artists themselves, allowing their avatars to move just like they would on a real life stage. Along with the virtual merch, this helps bring the user much closer to the experience overall.

Let’s explore some of the coolest Roblox concerts so far.

Charli XCX

Pop singer Charli XCX joined Samsung in creating a Roblox experience filled with a shapeshifting futuristic stage that levitated in space and a glass-domed hub that acted as the main lobby for users to socialize, collect stars for prizes, and learn new dance moves. Users could also create their own unique pop star avatar.

Once the show kicked off, Charli performed tracks like “New Shapes”, “Gone”, and “Boom Clap”, each in a completely new space from a bubble-filled rainbow room to a floating Galaxy smartphone. The concert was also broadcast live online for fans without a Roblox account. Super Biz helped create an interactive Charli XCX avatar that fans could socialize with and get information about the experience. They also promoted the concert using digital ads and billboards in other Roblox experiences.

24kGoldn

24kGoldn is a rapper and singer known for viral hits like “Mood” and “Valentino”.

Having seen his popularity soar thanks to his catchy lyrics, positive energy and some help from TikTok, it was only a matter of time before he made his way to Roblox with a live performance. The experience saw 24kGoldn with his signature bohemian style clothing and braided hair, dancing around an ever-changing Roblox landscape including a cloud-drenched sky stage, a neon-lit nightclub and a Japanese-inspired cityscape.

He performed songs such as “City of Angels”, “In My Head” and of course his hits “Mood” and “Valentino”. For users, there were scavenger hunts to retrieve merch and challenges to complete for in-game items. The weekend-long event saw an impressive 12.9 million visitors.

David Guetta

Legendary electronic DJ David Guetta performed a concert on the Roblox platform in 2022 as well.

Known as the David Guetta DJ Party, his experience featured an otherworldly galactic atmosphere with sci-fi elements and a deep purple virtual sky. There were hourly performances so users could pop in and out depending on when they were available to enjoy the show. There was even a countdown timer to let people know when the next show would begin.

Players had to solve puzzles to earn special abilities that made the experience more fun, like a jetpack and speech bubble. This experience saw 18,000 concurrent visitors during the first show, with 1.4 million visits over the course of the three-day weekend event.

Twenty One Pilots

The Twenty One Pilots concert experience kicked off with the pop duo performing as larger-than-life avatars in a Roblox city environment. Users loaded into an experience where they could dance, emote, throw balls, and jump around with around 20 other players while the band played hit songs such as “Saturday”.

From there, players could vote on which song they wanted to hear next. There was a two-week-long scavenger hunt that coincided with the metaverse concert, along with a teleportation system, a token collection game and a photo booth where users could take pictures with other concertgoers. 13.4 million visitors witnessed this experience, with 70% of them coming from outside the United States.

Lizzo

Lizzo, one of the most popular singers of the past 3 years, performed in Roblox as part of the Logitech Song Breaker Awards. The event featured Lizzo towering over a floating sky stage where she sang her hit single “Special”. A limited number of players were alloted for each lobby, making the show feel more intimate and exclusive — even though the show overall saw an astonishing 6.6 million viewers.

During Lizzo’s concert, the stage transformed around the players as Lizzo sang and danced. At one point, she could be seen holding a smaller version of herself in the palm of her hand.

Lil Nas X

Back in 2019, Lil Nas X took the world by storm with his single “Old Town Road” which blended hip-hop with country music. Less than a year later, the rapper took to the stage in Roblox for a virtual performance where he sang “Old Town Road” in his signature pink rhinestone suit and bedazzled pink cowboy hat.

He ran through other popular tracks such as “Panini” before closing the show with “Holiday” on a winter-themed stage. Players got access to their very own pink cowboy hat for free, with more avatar merch available for purchase during the event.

As Roblox continues to expand its platform tools and update its voice chat software, users should expect better and better concert experiences as time goes on. The Roblox metaverse is primed for music experiences thanks to its highly customizable virtual worlds. This, plus the motion capture utilization for the artists, lets users experience something many other metaverse game platforms are unable to offer.

With artists adding Roblox as a stop on their concert tours and an emerging music genre called Robloxcore, there’s plenty to praise about the music scene surrounding the world’s biggest game platform.
